A Renaissance Humanist studies their inner world, the art of reaching people through language, and the full-breadth of the human experience.
Abstract intellectualism aims to create neat models of reality. Renaissance Humanists move people to live better lives. They tell the intellectualists: “Your theories are absolutely true, but practically false”. A model discussed solely among academics does no good for society.
Renaissance humanists sought to create a citizenry able to speak and write with eloquence and clarity, and thus capable of engaging in the civic life of their communities and persuading others to virtuous and prudent actions1
They care about three interconnected studies:
Self-examination
Looking inward to align actions with convictions, i.e. Align with being through personal discovery. Pursuing authenticity (living with truth and honesty) while balancing decorum and community duty.
Rhetoric
The full art of reaching people through language. Rhetoric includes Logos (logic), Pathos (emotion), and Ethos (trust/character). Renaissance Humanists use tools to influence and connect with people, like:

- Active listening - Clear the road
- Structured philosophy - Structure enables creativity
- Community building - Leadership is a craft
