A craftsman needs 3 elements:
- a seed of curiosity
- authentic generosity & stewardship toward a community
- sustained commitment
A leader needs a reason to start leading. They need to have a group of people they care about. And they must embody the ideals they believe in. Because if they don’t, there won’t be any true followers. Yet ideals don’t survive in a vacuum. Leaders show people they play long-term games via consistent communication — Teaching builds trust. But there are no instant applauds.
Ideas are cheap — executing a vision over-time is what counts. And its commitment and discipline that gets them there. But guiding environments make it easier — People follow the path of least action. Leaders design that path; that’s the craft. And as they refine their craft, passion follows. Passion is the fruit of craftsmanship, not the seed.
