Countless ideas have already occurred to someone at some point — It’s a question of how far back. Consult history to learn from others’ mistakes, i.e. under which conditions did those ideas flourish vs. die, and how could we bring about those conditions to our environment today? How could the best ideas be resurfaced, recontextualized, or recombined? Its more useful to build off simple ideas of the past than over-complicated ideas of today1. Instead of reinventing the wheel, why not pave a smoother road?
