Generally, people copy what others are doing because People follow the path of least action.
The most popular path spreads because at least its clear and unprovocative. Your Aunt won’t question “I go to (well-known university) studying (law | medicine | engineering) and I have an internship at (well-known company)”.
Any answer outside this format will receive pushback. We work hard to ensure a “rational” (safe) answer. I equate the safe route with comfort. And comfort is nothing but fear gilded in gold.
Yet truth-tellers are “stoned by rocks of fire”1, which constrains people to the flock. Indeed, independence and change are painful. But Transformation requires challenge.
